Kia ora koutou (hello all), my name is Georgia McLellan, and I am a PhD student in the Geography department at The University of Auckland (Waipapa Taumata Rau) in Aotearoa (New Zealand). I have both Māori and pākehā (white settler New Zealander) ancestry. My iwi (tribes) are Whakatōhea and Ngāi Te Rangi, located on the North Island’s east coast. My PhD research is focused on Whakatōhea’s kuku (green-lipped mussel) economy. I am supervised by Dr. Emma Sharp, Dr Nicolas Lewis, Dr Kiri Dell and Dr John Reid. I have broader research interests in indigenous economies, Indigenous food sovereignty, economic geography and more-than-human geographies. My talk will follow the kuku across space and time and highlight important kuku relations across Aotearoa.
