Prince Albert Grand Council (PAGC) Shoreline/ Pollution Cleanup 

Part-Time Employment Opportunity: 

Indigenous Water Stewards, July 10-Sept 2nd 2023 

Are you looking for part time work? Do you want to contribute to healthy shorelines in your community? The Prince Albert Grand Council (PAGC) is seeking to hire 3-4 youth researchers as part of the ‘Cleaning our Land and Water: Community Shoreline Cleanups Initiative’. 

No research experience is necessary! 

The Initiative will: 

  • Connect youth (age 18-30) with a network of First Nations shoreline pollution professionals and project partners (New North: Sask Association of Northern Communities, Sask. Waste Reduction Council, Civic Laboratory for Environmental Action Research, U of S) 
  • Train First Nations youth on community research methods, including: shoreline cleanup methods and data collection following the PAGC Traditional Knowledge Protocol guide and Ownership Control Access Possession (OCAP) Principles 
  • Host community cleanups and work with existing PAGC projects to remove waste from community shorelines 
  • Work with Project Partners to document amount and types of waste materials following scientific protocols 
  • Share information on how to dispose of waste materials for your community. 

Employment Details

  • Must be a First Nation youth between the ages of 18 and 30 
  • Must have an interest in improving water conditions for your community. 
  • All training will be provided, though previous lab or fieldwork is an asset 
  • Must have access to Internet, a computer, and basic computer skills 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or access to transportation between PAGC communities 

Term of Work: 

  • Part-time (20 hours/ week) between July 10th- Sept 2nd, 2023 
  • Rate of Pay: CAD $25.00/ hour 
  • Travel, wages, training, & cleanup equipment provided by PAGC and partners 
  • Possibility for summer contract extension
